A Life of Faith, Family & Service
Melvin Mathew, 44, of Bensalem, Pennsylvania, entered the presence of his Lord on July 17, 2026, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Born on May 24, 1982, in Ranni, Kerala, India, to M. A. Mathew and Aleyamma Mathew, Melvin began his schooling at Father Agnel School in Mumbai, where his sister, Sheril, was born in 1989. In 1997, the family immigrated to the United States. He graduated with honors from George Washington High School in Philadelphia, earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University, and later completed an MBA from Western Governors University.
Melvin built a distinguished career, holding progressive leadership roles at various multinational companies, most recently FMC Corporation. He became a respected leader in renewable energy, global procurement, and plant operations. Yet those who knew him understood that his influence reached far beyond professional achievement. He believed leadership was ultimately about people, recognizing their dignity, encouraging their gifts, and bringing joy into their lives.
In 2009, Melvin married his beloved wife, Jency, daughter of E. P. Thomas and Sosamma Thomas. He loved her fiercely and cared for her with tenderness and devotion, always attentive to her needs and delighting in giving her the very best while expecting nothing in return. Together they were blessed with two sons, Joshua and Caleb. With Christ at the center of their marriage and home, Melvin was Jency’s steadfast cheerleader and a patient, purposeful mentor to their sons, celebrating their gifts, encouraging their growth, and lovingly challenging each of them to become all that God had called them to be. His family was among God’s greatest gifts to him, and he sought to love and lead them with generosity, wisdom, faith, and devotion. He gave Joshua and Caleb every opportunity to learn, grow, and discover their God-given gifts, and he loved showing them the world through travel, new experiences, and time spent together. He also cherished his nephew, Elliott, and his niece, Jeanine, delighting in being an encouraging and loving uncle whose warm embraces and countless kisses never failed to remind them how deeply they were loved.
Greatness is found not in being served, but in serving others.
Melvin’s character was defined by selfless service and unwavering generosity. Whether at work, at church, or at home, he believed that greatness was found not in being served, but in serving others. He gave freely of his time, wisdom, encouragement, and resources, never counting the cost when someone needed help. He possessed a rare gift for making people feel like old friends within moments of meeting him, welcoming everyone with genuine warmth, contagious joy, and effortless hospitality. He pursued excellence in all that he did, not for recognition, but because he believed every person and every responsibility deserved his very best, and he inspired others to do the same. Honest, candid, and refreshingly direct, he spoke his mind with conviction, believing that the truest expression of care was not merely to encourage others, but also to challenge them to become all that God had created them to be.
Melvin embraced life with warmth and enthusiasm. A well-traveled explorer, he believed travel opened the soul and delighted in taking his family around the world, savoring different cultures and cuisines as a true gastronome. A lover of Bollywood and Malayalam cinema and impeccably dressed for every occasion, he was, in his own words, a “desi boy” at heart. His joyful presence, personal style, and outgoing nature brought energy to every gathering and made those around him feel welcomed and valued.
Above all, Melvin belonged to Jesus Christ. His faith was not merely one part of his life; it was the foundation beneath it. From his early involvement in the Ascension Mar Thoma Church youth fellowship to his faithful service at Christian Life Church in Bensalem, Melvin sought to grow in faith, serve others, and encourage those around him.
The Christian hope is not that death is insignificant, but that Christ has defeated it. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live” (John 11:25). Because Melvin’s hope rested in Christ, his family grieves with sorrow, but not without hope.
Melvin is lovingly survived by his wife, Jency; his sons, Joshua and Caleb; his parents, M. A. Mathew and Aleyamma Mathew; his sister, Sheril; and his extended family, church family, friends, and colleagues, whose lives were made richer by having known him.
Nothing, not even death, can separate God’s children from “the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:39). Melvin’s earthly journey has ended, but the grace that sustained him in life has carried him home. He fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7). We entrust him to the arms of the Savior he loved, awaiting the resurrection and reunion when our goodbye is answered by a greeting that never ends.
